Windjammers Sailing Club Open House

Windjammers Sailing Club Open House

Saturday, June 15th

10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Windjammers Sailing Club will be hosting an open house this summer on Saturday, June 15th from 1000 am until 400 pm. This is an all ages, family friendly event designed for anyone who has an interest in sailing and the maritime community in general.  You may be completely new to the sport, new to the area and looking to get back on the water, or a seasoned salty who wants to connect with fellow sailors in the area.  Meet current members to learn about the club’s history, and what membership and sailing opportunities there are on the bay.  The club will have several sailboats set up for display, as well as members giving tours of sailboats of all kinds.  Sign up for a sailboat ride out on the bay! Lunch will be provided for all attendees.  RSVP information, as well as sailboat ride sign up is listed below.  There will also be several special guests at this event, including:

Green Bay Sail & Paddle, Inc. is a nonprofit organization creating learning opportunities for everyone, regardless of means and abilities, to safely enjoy sail and paddle sports on the waters of the bay. They will be providing sailboat rides throughout the day to those who are interested and will also have volunteers/instructors on hand to answer any questions about sailing lessons and what the organization offers.

Our local racing fleet of lightnings will have representatives on site to talk about the long history of sailboat racing at Windjammers, as well as answer questions about crewing opportunities and local racing nights and events.  There will also be a modern design lightning sailboat, as well as a classic design, on display for viewing.

Capt. Bill Wons will be on site with SailTime Door County to talk about a new innovative way of sailing called Fractional Membership. Borrowed from airplane pilots wanting to own their own aircraft, the concept allows members to sail brand new sailing yachts in the 35 to 40 foot range at a fraction of the cost of owning them outright. By sharing time on the vessels, each member sails a minimum of 7 times a month all summer long in Door County and avoids the hassles of traditional ownership. Make sure you stop at Capt. Bill’s booth to learn more about this rapidly growing innovative way of sailing.

In addition, local maritime law enforcement and maritime rescue boats will be in the water in our harbor for tours.  Personnel will be on hand to answer questions about boating safety and maritime rescue/law enforcement on the bay.

Getting out on the water is the best way to get hooked on sailing, and we want everyone to experience this!  Thats why this event is offering sailboat rides to those interested, many thanks to Green Bay Sail and Paddle for providing the boats and instructors for this event.  Please remember the following concerning sailboat rides:

  1. Sailboat rides are not guaranteed.  We will do everything possible to accommodate everyone, but certain factors may prevent us from doing so.  Weather, equipment/personnel, and time restrictions are possible reasons for cancellation.  If for some reason this happens, we will reschedule a day and time for you to get out on the water!
  2. If for some reason we must cancel rides and reschedule, you must be pre registered and present at this event to schedule a different day and time.
  3. Please keep groups limited to singles or doubles for sailboat rides.  The instruction boats are designed for 2-3 persons.  After that, they start to get uncomfortable.  You may sign up for a time slot at Green Bay Sail and Paddles website.
  4. If you have a larger group or would like to sail on a larger boat, there is a sign up on the club’s webpage about sailing experiences held all summer long.  Please sign up, and the club will contact you about getting out on the water either the day of this event if possible, or at another day and time

Let Us Know You Are Attending

Please let us know that you are coming!  We want to make sure that everyone has a chance to go sailing, have a great lunch, and can spend the day with us.  So PLEASE remember to RSVP for this event.
