Frequently Asked Questions

Windjammers Sailing Club is a “Without Stock and Not for Profit” club that was established in 1961 to both promote and grow the sport of sailing.  Our mission statement sums up what we are about-

The Mission of Windjammers Sailing Club is to grow sailing activities related to sailboat cruising, racing, and education for sailors of all abilities. Camaraderie among members is promoted through social activities centered on the love of sailing.

Where is Windjammers Located?

We are located at the end of Channel Road in the village of Suamico.  Our marina, clubhouse, and all amenities are located on this property

Do I need to be a sailor to be a member of Windjammers?

Absolutely not!  In fact, you don’t even need to have a boat to join.  Many of our members have joined as new sailors and have developed their skills and passion by working with our experienced members.  The club also has a small fleet of club boats reserved for member use.  We have multiple opportunities to learn sailing (and socialize) through our club, including Tuesday night racing, Thursday night lightning racing, weekend racing, a very involved cruising fleet, and of course the frequent day sail to enjoy the weather!

What is the membership process for joining?

Please reach out to the vice commodore at the link above to get started.  Generally, the process is very simple and straight forward.  After speaking to the vice commodore, you will fill out a membership application.  You will attend the next monthly meeting which is held the first Wednesday of each month at 630 pm.  At this meeting, we will introduce you and give you a chance to introduce yourself and why you would like to join.  After this meeting, the vice commodore will go over any dues/fees that are required before membership.  You will then return to the next monthly meeting and be voted on by the general membership either “Yay” or “Nay”.  If voted in and dues are paid, you will then be issued a key and given full access to the club!

What is included in membership?

Membership gives you full access to the club as a whole.  You may apply for a dock space or a dry sail space if you own a boat.  If not, you are able to use the club boats at your leisure (with a quick orientation beforehand)  You are able to use our clubhouse and gazeebo area for socializing or as a great place to relax and enjoy.  You will also have access to store your boat and trailer during the winter, and your trailer during the summer months.  Members also have voting rights to decide on how the club takes on projects and improvements, as well as the opportunity to serve on one of our many committees or the board of directors.  Essentially, membership grants you use of our organization however you would like!

Who is Included With Membership?

Membership extends to the member and their spouse/significant other, and immediate children.  Windajmmers is a very family friendly place!

How does the dues/payment process work?

When you join, the club charges a one-time initiation fee.  This amount is the same no matter what time of the year you are voted in. Depending on the time of year, all other fees or dues for services are prorated.  Whatever services you need are due at the time you are voted in and are good until the end of the fiscal year, December 31st.  The new year begins on January 1st, and all fees or dues for that year are due in total by the March general meeting.

Are there volunteer opportunities?

Yes!  Our club is a volunteer run and operated club.  Everything from administration to emptying the garbage cans is all done by our members.  All members are required to earn 125 volunteer points per year to stay in good standing with the club.  That equals 12.5 hours of total volunteering per calendar year.  We have an incredibly diverse membership pool with all different backgrounds and professions, so there is always a chance to apply your particular skills!
